It is both the pocket-sized version and the second volume of a previous edition, the result of extended research into the heritage of the Douro. As a pocket version, it includes all the marvels previously revealed but in a much more transportable user-friendly format. As Volume II, it not only avoids reproducing any of the images presented earlier, but also has the advantage of including over fifty more marvels \u2013 from regional gastronomy to Manueline pillories, Pombaline milestones and Medieval fortifications, Rococo architecture and traditional confectionary, decorative tiling and Baroque manor houses \u2013 with photographs distinguished by the colour of their captions.<\/p>\n If you already have the original edition, you can also appreciate the advantages of this new volume. You will note that it no longer has the large coffee-table book format of Volume 1, nor the preface by novelist J. Rentes de Carvalho.
