Used uninterruptedly for more than five centuries, the\u00a0azulejo<\/em>\u00a0is one of the most distinctive elements of Portugal\u2019s cultural heritage. Due to its privileged relationship with the architecture and other art forms, it has played a central role in the organization of church and palace interiors, and went on to become an important part of the urban landscape of many towns and cities throughout the country.
\nThis book offers a chronological overview of the various tile decorations applied in Braga during the Baroque period, revealing the singularity of many of the city\u2019s\u00a0azulejos<\/em>\u00a0and their connection to the Baroque ideal of artistic totality.
\nThe survey starts with 17th century patternedazulejos<\/em>, moves on to narrative and monumental blue and white decorations, introduced near the end of the 17th century and popularized during the first half of the following century, and ends with the Rococo period.
\nBraga\u2019s Baroque\u00a0azulejos<\/em>, whether publicly or privately displayed (some are found in private chapels or other remote locations) are now reunited and revealed in a single volume, inviting the reader to take a closer look at this remarkable artistic heritage, which must be promoted and preserved for the benefit of future generations.<\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Ros\u00e1rio Salema de Carvalho<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00e9 investigadora do ARTIS \u2013 Instituto de Hist\u00f3ria da Arte da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, onde integra o grupo Az \u2013 Rede de Investiga\u00e7\u00e3o em Azulejo, da qual \u00e9 tamb\u00e9m coordenadora executiva.
\nActualmente desenvolve um projecto de p\u00f3s-doutoramento (com bolsa da Funda\u00e7\u00e3o para a Ci\u00eancia e a Tecnologia), dedicado \u00e0 quest\u00e3o das molduras no azulejo barroco, tendo como institui\u00e7\u00e3o de acolhimento o ARTIS (Az) e o Museu Nacional do Azulejo.
\n\u00c9 doutorada em Hist\u00f3ria, especialidade em Hist\u00f3ria da Arte, pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa (2012), com a tese intitulada\u00a0A pintura do azulejo em Portugal [1675-1725]. Ros\u00e1rio Salema de Carvalho<\/strong>, researcher at ARTIS \u2013 Art History Institute of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, and executive coordinator of the Az \u2013 Azulejo Research Network, currently developing a post-doctoral project (awarded by Foundation for Science and Technology), dedicated to the issue of frames in Baroque tile decorations, hosted by ARTIS (Az) and the National\u00a0Azulejo<\/em>\u00a0Museum.
\nThe author has a PhD in History, with a specialisation in Art History, from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon (2012) and wrote a dissertation entitled\u00a0Azulejo painting in Portugal<\/em>[1675-1725].\u00a0Authorships and biographies\u00a0<\/em>\u2013\u00a0a new paradigm.<\/em>\u00a0She concluded in 2007 a Master\u2019s Degree in Art, Heritage and Restoration from the same Faculty, with the dissertation …for the love of God. The depiction of the works of mercy in 18th century Portuguese tile panels<\/em>\u00a0commissioned by the Brotherhoods of Mercy<\/em>.
\nCurrently focused on the study of artistic heritage, and particularly on the field of Portuguese\u00a0azulejos<\/em>, Ros\u00e1rio Salema de Carvalho is the author of several articles published in national and international scientific journals.<\/td>\n		Lib\u00f3rio Manuel Silva<\/strong>, founding editor of Portuguese publisher Centro Atl\u00e2ntico (the national best-seller photography books publisher), is an entrepreneur with a great love of cultural and heritage photography.
\nThe author of some thirty books \u2013 with three different publishers \u2013 on subjects such as the History of the Book, Art, Fernando Pessoa, Management and Technology, and over one hundred articles published in leading Portuguese newspapers and magazines. He both founded and directed three magazines.
\nPresently Lib\u00f3rio Manuel Silva is preparing for publication Azulejos \u2013 Wonders of Portugal and the second volume of his seminal work:\u00a0Libraries \u2013 Wonders of Portugal,<\/a><\/em>\u00a0the culmination of extended research.
\nIn Portugal, he is known as a pioneer of Internet training (1994) and of the creation and distribution of e-books (1999).
\nWith ten years\u2019 experience as a teacher in higher education, he holds a postgraduate qualification in Management, an international postgraduate certificate (USA, France, South Korea and Japan) in Service Excellence, and he attended an MBA in International Commerce.
\nLib\u00f3rio Manuel Silva took up photography at very young age and following study at the Cooperativa \u00c1rvore in Oporto, he created a photographic laboratory at home.
